No Reason For This Rhyme

I've finally made it back to post two days in a row, I'm sure your impressed. By now you should have baked the coconut cream cake and indulged in the entire pan. I know I would have if I hadn't enlisted the guys at work to help me out.

If you've been around here for awhile you should know I love just about anything vintage. Each piece has a story; where it came from, where it went and who it lived with. Pieces today aren't built with the same craftsmanship and quality. I appreciate the small details. The history and the ability to create your own style without having a cookie cutter look is what intrigues me.

Are you a big of fan of turquoise and silver as I am? Then you will just as disappointed as I was when I realized there was no way in heck I would be getting these bracelets on my arm. You see back in day people used to be little bitty. Their waists were slimmer, the wrists thinner, more petite in general.

I laugh when I think of how people would have considered me a giant, a freak of nature. I like that I have been given taller cards, it sets me apart from everyone else. So while I mourn never being able to wear these beauties, your small wrists are saying, come to momma!

Homegrown flowers. From my garden. Hydrangeas. They are the best. There's nothing better than walking outside and picking these beauties!

The past few months I have been looking for a good way to contain all of Jack's treats that was visually appealing. Thankfully one afternoon when I was thrifting I came across these clear glass canisters. They give off the general store feel and show off the different varieties of cookies!

Had a little surprise the other day when I was in the basement and spotted this large and in charge toad. I found him in one of our window wells and released him back into the wild. Doing my part to keep the toad community safe.

I've had the whole morning off and its been wonderful. I miss the days when I could have a leisure morning, drink my coffee and eat breakfast on the porch or watch a little of Hota and Kathy Lee. Cheers to a beautiful day and the possibilities of making someone smile!!

Mint + Orange

Oh what a week! I started on-boarding for my new job, had a little time to myself with Jack and was able to take in the outdoors! I wore my hippie sandals for the first time this season. They aren't very stylish but they very comfy! Just something easy to throw on when I'm futsing around outdoors.

Jack had a HUGE milestone this week! He's passed three different dog training classes and is a certified good citizen. (Seriously I don't know how he passed, the doggie gods were among us!) Even though he is certified it doesn't actually mean he is in control. Most of the time he has a dual personality, either sweet  and friendly or just down right ugly, I want to rip your hand off mentality.

So I guess what I am leading up to, Jack and I went on our FIRST bike ride together!!! And it was AMAZING!!! He was perfect! I rode an old bike my dad had restored years ago with a basket that I knew would be easy to hop off in case of emergency. I didn't want to risk crashing my good bike. I'm not sure if he was so good because he was half scared of the bike or because he just knew what to do! Whatever the reason I am so proud! I peddled my bike and he trotted along side me, no problems. Honestly it looked like we had done this a million times! I hope this wasn't a one time fluke, I'm trying to get my mom to take him out this way, so he will get faster paced exercise and more distance. Fingers are crossed for her safe travels!

I know I've already shared a few photos of the peonies but I couldn't resist! They are my favorite! These are a slightly different variety and I tend to like these better. I have no idea what they are called!

Peas and Q's By Nicole.

Yesterday in my outfit post I forgot to mention my nail polish! I have been on a nail polish hiatus for the past month. No specific reason, I just got tired of painting and repainting. Sometimes I think your nails just need time to breath and be natural. I have seen a slight difference in their health! I've had this color for a while now. It's Peas and Q's by Nicole. I always have problems with chips and have wanted to try laquer but the price tag keeps me away. I painted these Sunday night before bed. I've been pretty hard on them and today was the first day I noticed a chip! I guess that's what I get for working out!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there! You are so special! Be sure to pamper your mom and be thankful for all she has done! I know I sure am! In the mean time I am off to a wedding of a good friend I played volleyball with! I can't wait to see some of my teammates! I swear this is the summer of weddings! Have a good one!

peonies.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of the peonies in my yard ready to bloom.
Early yesterday morning they looked like this.
Peonies have always been one of my favorite flowers but the darn things attract ants and flies like crazy.

See below: fly and ant takeover
Later in the day once the sun was out and it was a little warmer they looked like this, petals wide open.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Saturday, yesterday and today my mom and I went on a treasure hunt, found a bunch of goodies, and talked with some really interesting people. The people you meet while on your travels make the experience much more fulfilling. Especially when they tell you the tales of their family or where something came from.

I should have a plethora of photos for you this week. I've been trying to document as much as I can. Wednesday we had a tornado threat close by which was quite interesting. I'll post more on that later.

This week I've been busy reorganizing my closet because on Monday I start a new job! I've sorted all my business professional out into another closet to make things easy in the morning and it gives me some space to actually see what I have! Do you ever feel like your life is out of sorts if your closet is a mess?

Lady Lilacs

This post comes a little late, but I thought I would post it anyway. Easter Sunday the lilacs were in full bloom and their scent was too invigorating not to use for our center piece. Our table was simple, with mixed and matched ironstone plates. They are my favorite, they go with anything and are timeless. We used my Great Aunt's set of silverware. I love holidays and special occasions when we put them to use.

This salt and pepper set also belonged to my great aunt and gets daily use. I have always loved this color of green but since they have been passed through the family they mean more. Clearly you can see where my antiquing genes come from!

A few years back my mom and I were at a flea market and ran into a guy who was selling pieces from an old church that was being torn down. We ended up getting this rosary votive holder and a matching pulpit. We use it all the time.

Especially during storms.
I don't know if that's because its religious or because it holds so many candles...
Either way I love it.
It's different.
How many other people have one like it?
Very few.

I'm working on another post from the weekend. I went up north for a friend's wedding. I can't wait to share!
