Tornado. Tornaado.

Thankfully Tuesday I called into work to chat with one of the girls because I had no idea we were under a tornado watch/ warning. (I still don't know the difference between the two!) She said everyone at work was heading to the back room to take cover and that the storm was headed directly our way. Apparently there had already been some funnel clouds spotted. Of course my first instinct was to turn on the TV to see what was going on and then head outside to see for myself.

Sunnies skies had quickly turned into dark, mean clouds. The wind subsided and it turned muggy. You could see the slight rotation in some of the clouds passing by. We weren't just worried about 1 storm, but 2. We were directly in the middle of the side by side storms. All of the sudden the wind picked up from a standstill and no joke, there were butterflies EVERYWHERE! Flies too! It honestly was the strangest thing, hundreds of butterflies!

Mom and I kept our posts watching the skies and about half a mile away a tornado spotter was stationed waiting for the storm.

All of a sudden this cloud started to look like this (note the little butterflies everywhere). We stayed outside for a little watching it transform and then headed down to the basement with the kitty and Jack when it looked like it was starting to form a funnel. This cloud was about a mile away and we didn't want to take any chances.

This picture really doesn't do the funnel any justice because it was still forming and not spinning quickly. We didn't want to wait to see if it would advance into something more serious since it was so close. Thankfully no one was injured and there wasn't any devastation. All in all we saw about 4 tornado chasers and the beginnings of a funnel cloud.

How about that for a Tuesday afternoon?
